Most Canadians know that WWI fighter ace Billy Bishop – a hero on both sides of the Atlantic and a recipient of  Victoria Cross – hailed from Owen Sound, Ontario. But how many of you know of his strong roots and connections to Muskoka?

In fact, Bishop was a frequent visitor to Muskoka in the post-WWI years, having married Margaret Eaton Burden, granddaughter of Timothy Eaton. It just so happened that the famous founder of the Eatons retail empire owned a luxury cottage – well, more country estate than cottage – on Lake Rosseau. Bishop also started a successful air service between Muskoka and Toronto, thus cementing his connections further.

So it’s only fitting, then, that, Dot The T Productions, a Muskoka-based professional theatre Company, should celebrate the region’s connection to the war hero – not to mention the 100th anniversary of the end of WW1 – with a repeat of its superb production of Billy Bishop Goes to War. And better still, the Muskoka Lakes summer theatre production of this classic Canadian play will be hosted on Lake Rosseau at the New Baldwin’s Resort in Windermere.

“It’s very exciting to have Bishop back in Muskoka,” says the show’s producer, Jan Jacklin, a Muskoka resident herself.
